I like to read, to explore ideas, to connect what I read in the paper…to the novel I just finished…to the interesting piece on the radio…to the Bible and spiritual truth, and then I write about my observations, conclusions and questions. It is the writing process that clarifies my thinking.
The result is that I live in my head for many hours each day which can result in the unnoticed but persistent crawl of the desk from which I observe life into the center of the life I’m supposed to be living. What point is there in thinking or writing about life if I don’t make the time to live it?
This weekend is for living.
The thinking and writing will come later.

Hmmm. If this last weekend was for “living”, is this week for “loving?” Yes, I know every week is for loving, but your blog made me think about how much we read about love, dream about love, watch movies about love, maybe even write about love…Your quote, “What point is there in thinking or writing about life if I don’t make the time to live it?” could have “love” inserted in the place of “life.” What point is there in thinking or writing about LOVE, if I don’t make the time (or effort) to do it? We love God because He first loved us. Maybe we can love others too, because HE first loved us. May He give us His love to dispense on Valentines Day and every day!

Judy – in very similar fashion – it is when I talk out loud (and have what I’ve said reflected back to me by another) – that I gain clarity – particularly regarding my heart’s desires and the ways God is calling me to show up in the world. Like you, every once in awhile I realize I’ve been doing an awful lot of talking and not very much living. Maybe we can personalize Solomon’s wisdom – There’s a time for talking/writing and a time for living it out. : ) “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
