Communicating with God

milada-vigerova-45368I woke up this morning to a series of beeps on my cell phone, and I saw texts from good friends from college reacting to the news that one of us is in the hospital. My agenda for the morning was set; I am focused on her family in prayer. And since writing helps me to clear my head and drill down to what I really want to pray, I’m writing.

Prayer is communicating with God. It is a tremendous gift to be able to talk with the Almighty God at any time about anything. There are times for seeking out the Bible’s wisdom on how to pray, for working to pray correctly, for making sure that there is nothing getting in between one’s prayers and God, and for expanding one’s prayer life. This is not one of those times.

Today I am simply talking with God.

I asked Him to help this family, and I know that he is. I asked Him to be with them, and then I thought well of course he is with them. Always. He promised that. Then I asked Him to make sure that they know he is with them, to give them peace which transcends all understanding, wisdom that comes only through the Holy Spirit, and to strengthen their hearts. I asked the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort to do His thing.

Whatever this day brings, I pray that they will walk through it under the guidance, protection and provision of the Almighty God, and that they will absolutely know it.

“In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes with us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:26-27
